Control Case Study by Synel Name of company - SINOPEC
• Type
of industry - The core businesses of the Company are petroleum refining,
petroleum products storage, transportation and marketing, research and
development of petrochemical technologies and catalyst.
• Country
- China
• Type
of installation - Access Control, Harmony
• Number
of employees – 500,000 (currently 100,00 reporting)
• Number
of buildings/sites – 13 sites and 40 buildings
• Type
of solution given – 150 SY-400/A TCP/IP, 300 PRX-25 readers
• Background
and important points for consideration -
The project
started as an access control solution for one building, and has been upgraded
to Harmony.
The defined
zone – which is the size of a small town - includes about 50 factories,
all of oil and petroleum production plants. Over 500,000 workers and visitors
pass through the ground everyday. Each factory has a system of turnstiles
which control employees’ entry and exit. The controller’s
system is installed inside the turnstiles, as well as in controlled doors
in sensitive zones, such as management area, IT rooms etc.
One of the
main problems facing such a large area and number of people, is the need
to grant authorization for a number of production plants, where each plant
has its own specific authorization definitions.
• Project
description -
A proximity
reader with a range of about 10 meters, connected to an SY-400 controller
is installed at vehicles’ entrance. As the vehicle approaches the
barrier and license plate number is read, the Harmony systems send a string
with the read number to a display panel, which is installed at the height
of 5 meters above guard’s booth. Only after the guard verifies that
the number plate on the vehicle corresponds with the one displayed on
the panel does he open the barrier. Vehicle’s exit is according
to pre-defined authorization.
An interesting
feature of the system is that there is an interface between the harmony
and a speed checking system which already exists in the plant. If the
system receives an input, that the vehicle has exceeded the speed limit
or was involved in any other traffic violation – it automatically
cancels the exit authorization.
The system
is used by both employees and visitors. It supports visitors’ management
and their vehicles, and includes control and follow up on various courses
such as safety training, drivers’ educational programs etc. An employee
or visitor which has not attended a specific designated course, does not
receive an entry permit.

Synel's
Telephone Reporting System
Use
of the system
A telephone data collection and reporting system is essential
and useful where there is no need for a complete and cumbersome system,
in cases such as a small number of employees, or employees spread in a
number of remote locations, where a central location does not exist.
Data collection software is installed on a PC, from which it registers
reports done over the phone, and an audio message is accordingly generated
to the reporter.
The
system includes:
• PC computer
• Communication software
• A modem with identified call and voice mail (the number of modems
varies according to the amount of people reporting)
• The amount of hardware required will depend on the amount of incoming
simultaneous calls.
Reporting
options & characteristics
• The customer can record, over the phone, various messages,
to be heard by the reporting employee.
• The system supports 6 kinds of messages:
- A general opening message
- Different codes for reporting
- Acceptance message for all report kinds
- Error message - non existing employee
- Error message - wrong code
- Error message - reporting to an unauthorized line
• Reporting can be done simultaneously while message is being played
- no need to wait until message ends
• Call is automatically disconnected once the report has been accepted
• There is a limitation on the maximum duration of a call - the
line cannot be kept open for long periods
System
advantages
• Employee’s attendance data - in real time
• Verification of reports’ authenticity
• A simple system based on standard components
• Full integration with Synel’s terminals

Stand-alone
Biometric Access Solution – from Synel
The latest addition to Synel’s series of access control
products is the PRintX-40 I/V stand-alone biometric access control solution.
The proximity and biometric units are adjacently installed at sensitive
locations for granting access to secure zones.
Setup, management of authorized, and definitions are all done locally,
in a simple manner, by the keyboard. Defining parameters in PRintX-40
I/V is simple, while maximum security is facilitated by using a user-defined
Master code with up to 100 million possibilities. The templates and an
authorized list are created and edited using the keyboard.
The PRintX-40 I/V comprises 2 solutions:
1. PRintX-40/V is a combined proximity and fingerprint reader. It is a
unit designated for access control and operates with a fingerprint verification
version. The PRintX-40/V works with various unit settings, according to
the security level required at a specific location. Access is available
for up to 4,000 card holders.
2. PRintX-40/I is the fingerprint identification version, which does not
require the use of a badge. The finger is placed on the sensor and acceptance
or rejection is immediately achieved. In this version, the keyboard unit
can be installed behind the wall, as it is being used for setup purposes
only. Access is available for up to 200 authorized people.
