COMPANY PROFILE

MicroLatch are leaders in the design, manufacture and distribution of cost-effective biometrics security and radio frequency (RF) technologies. The combination of biometrics and RF offers unparalleled simplicity and flexibility.

In addition, combination with existing security infrastructure and access systems enables card or credential holder identification with our latest release BIOFOB (BIOmetrics keyFOB) and CCF (combination card and finger) solutions, a new dimension in uniquely identifying the person, rather than the credential or PIN!

Microlatch was established in Australia specifically to create a unique range of security products from our patented technology under the trade marks "Microlatch" and "BIOFOB". Since inception, the Microlatch Group has concentrated its expertise on the design, quality manufacture and worldwide marketing and distribution for a range of RF (radio frequency) Wireless Biometrics combinations.

The main theme of these developments has been to offer simple and effective transition from non-secure access card or PIN (Personal Identification Number) security systems into biometrics identification of the individual. Microlatch works with global partners to upgrade, upsell or enhance traditional access / login systems to overcome several inherent weaknesses.

Existing security systems mainly rely on verifying the access media being used, however this does not identify the individual bading the card or entering the PIN into the system. Microlatch offers a simpler, less costly and far more capable security transition to all Corporate and Security platforms.

In addition to the above, Microlatch has created and patented KeyFob systems utilizing wireless applications for both short range badging and long range RF secure rolling code transmission, electro-mechanical door access systems, plus offers packaged shrink wrap security products for retail and wholesale distribution.

Combination card and finger biometrics devices communicate down any existing, standard wiegand or magnetic stripe 'wired' interface, in series with the card reader or payment terminal - utilizing the local power source. All products developed are compatible with industry standard interfaces, plus employ the latest security transmission techniques to ensure anti-grab encryption & non-replayable data messaging.

The future direction of the company will continue to focus on transitionary technological solutions, combining automation technologies that feature cost-effective biometrics, such as fingerprint technology, with Remote RF KeyFobs and Wireless Access Wall Mounted RF readers.

The result of this integration strategy is to completely remove the requirement for communications cables whilst offering simplicity of system operation and management, plus ensuring that the battery source powers the products for extended and prolonged periods. The innovative products are developed through our in-house engineering team, offering worldwide patented technology protection.

These products offer unique benefits for industry professionals of all disciplines, from installers to locksmiths and DIY. Fingerprint keyfobs are destined to change the culture of keyfobs for security, alarm panel, automotive and every-day use.

ACCESS CONTROL INDUSTRY ALERT
By Chris Burke Managing Director MicroLatch

INTRODUCTION
Recent questions have been raised about the vulnerabilities of physical access control systems. In my opinion, the majority of attacks are generally simple in nature and involve a person already associated in some manner with the entity.

CURRENT ACCESS SYSTEMS
The best way to prevent any type of fraud is to defend at the front line; this involves focusing on the employee ‘credential’ for physical or logical access.

The majority of Corporate security systems these days allocate an I/D number to the individual and track their movements via access card or PIN readers. This form of security system therefore relies solely on identifying the access card or PIN entered.

The process of card badging or PIN input actually becomes the security system’s greatest weakness, in that; we are only identifying the card or PIN – not the individual. Therefore, employee collusion for fraud or ‘time & attendance’ manipulation has developed.

The ability to recreate, loan, steal access cards or video PIN numbers being entered ensues; and in recent times it has become very easy to copy proximity or magnetic stripe cards.

DETECTING THE CARD USER
The most important step forward in security systems has been with the advent of Biometrics, which offers a far greater certainty for identification purposes. The newly formulated requirement is to add a Biometrics template to the access card or PIN in the most cost-effective manner and with the greatest security upgrade.

Microlatch have created many patented solutions that add such a Biometric signature to existing systems, thereby offering a simple upgrade and ensuring the identification of the card holder or PIN being entered.

The two types of systems are shown below, CCF (Combination Card and Finger) and BIOFOB (BIOmetric keyFOB) with integrated proximity tag.

USE ADDITIONAL FACTOR OF AUTHENTICATION
The use of card readers with add-ons such as Microlatch CCF (Combination Card and Finger) means that lost cards cannot be picked up and simply used to enter a facility. It also eliminates the threat of card cloning.

Microlatch offer a simple upgrade to any existing card reader, simply ‘plug and play’ and the reader automatically holds the transmission data until a valid finger is presented, Simple and very Secure.

The use of biometric readers to insure that the person presenting the card is actually the same person that was issued the card can be used at doors where a higher level of security is required. A similar solution is to use hand-held biometric fobs that only emit RFID card data after a biometric authentication has occurred.

These types of devices, available from companies like Microlatch, actually help to increase privacy and cannot be surreptitiously read without the user’s permission since the access control credential cannot be read until the biometric authentication process has taken place.

CONCLUSION
Security systems these days need to upgrade with Biometrics enhancements, as it is becoming more obvious to perpetrators that intrusion into these buildings or online platforms are so easy with Trojan software solutions, video capturing of PIN’s and card theft or copying techniques.

Microlatch Technology Review, CCF & BIOFOB

CCF, Combination Card and Finger, is a totally unique biometrics product that is ideally suited to today’s transition from ‘card’ to ‘card and finger’ based technology platforms. Microlatch have created, developed and patented CCF and other related biometrics solutions, based on non-pc based operation and seamless integration processes.

CCF can be integrated into any existing card reader system, as a 4,000+ template association with the user card or PIN. The CCF automatically detects Wiegand, Card and Data or other protocol formats and adjusts its output to suit. CCF contains a self management procedure in line with Microlatch patented solutions and can be networked for distribution of the internal templates on a back-bone RS485 configuration – therefore input of the template at any CCF will be propagated to all CCF’s on the network.

BIOFOB, Biometric Keyfob, is another totally unique product from Microlatch. The combination of a car remote or keyfob for security alarm or long range access control is significantly enhanced with the addition of fingerprint verification. Microlatch is the first company to combine the long range RF (radio frequency) communications with fingerprint control in the world.

The result offers an upgrade option to car and security control systems by identifying the card or keyfob owner. Radio frequency currently uses ultra-secure code-hopping or non-replayable secure communications systems; however we still don’t identify who is pressing the button! This allows simple car theft; break into the home and steal the car remote and drive the car away, absolutely no alarm; however the fingerprint addition inhibits this theft option. Fingerprint is also used for online transaction identification, whether for banking or online payment systems, BIOFOB offer a unique way to identify the user.

Internal tag activation by BIOFOB, enables the antenna, which is the mechanism of both powering and communicating to the card IC. BIOFOB uses a smaller tag or paper-thin wafer with smart chip IC integrated and attached to a much smaller antenna – therefore the process of operation is exactly the same as a standard ISO card.

BIOFOB is a secure payment solution and identification token, enhancing the more security and flexibility of a standard ISO size card. This feature allows seamless integration with traditional access platforms, as follows;
