COMPANY PROFILE

Initsys Ltd technology allows Security companies to overcome the problems of speed, bandwidth and quality on IP networks.

Initsys provides a total solution for companies wishing to take advantage of IP for CCTV, access control and alarm transmission; products are available for installers, integrators and commercial alarm receiving centres. Initsys calls its technology AAVID – Alarms, Access and Video.

Initsys is partnering with industry names such as Panasonic, IQinvision, Axis amongst the camera manufacturers and Sun Microsystems and Cisco from the server and networking worlds.

Initsys routers enable IP cameras to send high quality frames into a network where they are compressed and sent onto the control room (ARC), at the ARC they can be used for general surveillance purposes. The original higher quality camera images remain in the router where they can be recalled and examined in more detail if needed.

At the control room Initsys routers and plug in software enables alarm receiving centers to rapidly deploy images into standard ARC software.

Solving the speed and quality conundrum.

Initsys routers are also popular with managers of networks because they ensure that the network bandwidth is retained for other services.

VerifiedAlarms is a camera independent network using the same AAVID technology described above but operated on behalf of client ARC and the ISP solving the same problems of speed and quality on upload constricted broadband connections. VerifiedAlarms is a subscription based service with its own link to all major ISP in 14 countries.

Initsys is looking for worldwide partners for the VerifiedAlarms concept.

Initsys routers form the backbone of many security networks, enabling high quality cameras to work at their best quality, whilst maintaining high transmission speeds for operators in control rooms.

PRODUCTS

iRecord
iRecord is a software package for recording images from IP cameras and traditional CCTV linked through an analogue to IP interface, like the Axis 2400 series video server. It includes advanced video motion detection and a secure interface to the VerifiedAlarms network (more later). iRecord is free to use when a subscription to VerifiedAlarms is taken and is available for a small yearly licence fee when not.

IAF (Install and Forget)
IAF is a network video recorder for IP based cameras; it includes the professional version of iRecord(+) with InitsysDD(IDD) - Duplex Detection - used where you need ultra reliable detection of activity in protected areas.

IAF includes a point of sale interface, optional digital input output/module iDigital and status checking of all connected devices.

IDD
IDD uses video motion edge detection coupled to real time sensor data to provide very accurate detection and alarm from up to twenty zones in a camera scene. This can be either internal or external detection. Ideally suited to scene management mega-pixel type cameras such as the IQinvison range.

IDD alarm information can be passed to the control room so that other cameras can be automatically pan tilt and zoomed to the area requiring attention. This makes the tedious monitoring of CCTV monitors unnecessary and making the job of control room operators easier and more productive. It also means that less cameras are needed to achieve the same result.

FTProuter and iRelay
Of course any system that is expected to transmit images or alarms needs to be fast and secure. Speed and Bandwidth are major issues for any network, on a local area network there may be fears that CCTV can use up the available bandwidth and reduce the speed for other users. The Initsys FTProuter and iRelay solves this problem by allowing CCTV cameras to send high quality images when an alarm occurs either detected directly by the camera or through the advanced IDD system included in IAF. This means that the bandwidth is only used when it is needed.

At the control room Merlin, Initsys's multi-user software, is capable of linking to many legacy alarm and access control systems, directly to most IP enabled CCTV cameras and of course IAF units and IDD alarm messages. Easy to use and with many features, Merlin is in use in commercial alarm receiving stations and campus type control rooms like those found in universities and hospitals. It is capable of displaying images and alarms and access control status simultaneously and is compatible with Mjpeg and Mpeg cameras.

More recently Merlin has been improved to include biometric readers and a control and viewing capability for many DVR systems.

Merlin is available as a "plug in" for other alarm receiving center software packages and is easy to implement.

One of the most interesting aspects of Initsys's product base is the VerifiedAlarms network. This network is owned and managed by Initsys and has collector servers positioned in secure locations in the UK the USA and Europe. These servers are placed at the top level of the Internet and are directly connected to networks operated by most Internet providers.
As the Internet is designed to download data to users faster than they can upload, the positioning of the server is critical. It is just a short hop to the server for image upload with no large network to traverse. In real terms this means that it is possible to send better quality, larger CCTV images than just a simple end to end connection.

You can see that the VerifiedAlarms solves the bandwidth problem of sending high quality CCTV images from IP cameras for alarm verification. Images can be sent to the servers at high quality , they are then compressed and made available for the control room to download. Images remain on the server where they can be used for evidence if needed. A totally secure network, with polling and gateways for EN50136 compliant devices, VerifiedAlarms is compatible with most IP cameras.

Ideally suited to VerifiedAlarms is the new Panasonic BLC10 which has its own inbuilt infra red detector.

Initsys's current clients include local authorities, retail, banking and commercial alarm receiving stations plus alarm installing companies

The Netherlands leads the way in Internet Security.

A good example of the cooperation between European and US based security companies can be found in the Netherlands, where leading Security companies LiveSecure and Hillsafety, using the Hillson Meldkamer Services control room at Hillson Holdings (Alphen aan den Rijn), have taken a leap forwards in the successful introduction of IP based technology to several construction companies within the HSL project (European High Speed Rail Track) consortium.

The proposed HSL train.

Hillson'scontrol room (PAC certified) is monitoring the construction of the HSL railline using IQinvision IQeye megapixel cameras. Images from the cameras being sent through the Initsys VerifiedAlarms network and displayed for the operator at the control room by Initsys's Merlin control room software.

All that is required on each construction site are the cameras, sensors and connection to the network. This keeps installation cost to a minimum. Features of traditional alarm transmission systems are maintained whilst speed and clarity are enhanced.

The system allows for regular electronic remote patrols and reaction in the event of alarm. Alerting of response teams is made by radio call, by email and/or SMS depending on the severity of the incident. The responders have the ability to verify the alarm themselves, prior to despatch, by simply using the web interface built into VerifiedAlarms.

The highly trained operators at the Hillsafety control room are able to analyse the high quality megapixel images provided by the IQeye cameras to pick out detail that traditional analogue cameras may miss. The VerifiedAlarms network transmitting these images far faster than Internet only or VPN networks and in a technically easier way; the network solving all of the security and linking issues expected with integration at this level.

Matthijs VrisekoopLiveSecure'sManager Production, Service and Innovation says "LiveSecure and the security room at Hillson Holding have realised a complete solution of digital guarding and recording, independent of camera brand, with VerifiedAlarms. The customer takes advantage of the fact that he is able to guard his location(s) everywhere he has access to the Internet.

Thanks to the security room software Merlin, the security room (PAC certified) is able to give a quick and effective follow up on the alarms.

It is the situation that by using advanced IP-technology high investments in Video Management solutions belong to the past."

Christopher Berry Managing Director of Initsys "Matthijs and his team are exploring the boundaries of Internet based security, and they are proving that by using the right products it is economic and safe for general use. These guys are leading the way for the rest of us in Europe. I am proud to see that our products met the specific and exacting technical needs of these Internet experts."
