EVERSWITCH access control keypads utilize Baran Advanced Technologies patented Piezo technology, constructed of a single piece of anodized aluminum. The keypad is sealed to IP 68, against environmental conditions. The legend is anodized into the aluminum and will never wear off. These units are suitable for temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +120°C and withstand humidity up to 100% (actually, they even work when submerged). The EVERSWITCH keypad was tested in excess of 50 million cycles.

Everswitch Access Control Keypads

Everswitch offers a line of access control keypads, and was recently awarded FAA Certification for the new Cockpit Door Access Control Keypad, giving them the only certified keypad for flight deck doors in the security industry.

The Cockpit Door Access Control Keypad joins Everswitch complete line of security products that includes Wiegand keypads, Prox readers and single door access systems and crosses over into a host of other industries.

Everswitch control keypads use Piezo technology, built of a single piece of aluminum. The entire keypad is filled with a rubbery potting compound that seals the unit completely against environmental conditions. The Everswitch panels are completely sealed with no gaps even for bacteria to hide.

Piezo switches are constructed by attaching the piezoelectric material to the back of a metallic membrane. Pushing the membrane results in no discernable movement. And yet, pressure applied to the front of the membrane is converted into a small electric current that is used to switch a secondary circuit. Piezo switches so constructed have no moving parts, no arcing and no openings that invite wetness and dust.

Baran Access Solutions Launched to Target North America Access Control Market

New Subsidiary Leverages Engineering Giant’s Technological Expertise and Global Reach

New and old have come together with the launch of Baran Access Solutions, a reorganization of the familiar Barantec family of products that will now concentrate on access control solutions, including Everswitch single-door keypads and controllers, contactless smart card readers, proximity readers and magstripe readers.

As part of the restructuring, security industry veteran and RFID technology expert Bill Newill has been named the company’s president. The company is setting up its corporate offices in southern California.

“Baran Access Solutions can now concentrate its efforts on the unique demands of the access control market without being distracted by ancillary products,” said Newill. “In the end, greater focus will translate to tighter internal processes, better engineered products and a higher level of customer satisfaction.”

The new company will leverage the patented and highly reliable Piezo technology in its product line. “Having access to this industry-leading technology gives us a huge leg up on the competition,” Newill added.

Joint Effort by Barantec and Quintron Brings Indestructible Keypad with Combo Magstripe and Prox Reader

A joint effort by Barantec and Quintron is bringing a new unit that combines and transitions three technologies, keypad, magstripe and proximity, to the market.

Tri-Guard, offers a number of benefits to end users especially in areas such as the government and educational markets where magstripe technology have been prevalent. Since the cost to transition all magstripe cards and readers to proximity cards and readers would be quite high, having both technologies in the same unit is a perfect solution. In addition, since magstripe cards are less expensive than proximity ones, they are perfect for temporary users.

The three technologies is a perfect transition for many applications," said Rick Foster, director of marketing & sales for Quintron. "In large government facilities where there are thousands of magstripe users, the current users can continue with the mag cards, but the new people can receive a prox card. They can then slowly transition out from using the magstripes instead of replacing them all at once.

"In addition, rather than using the more expensive prox card for temporary students on college campuses, they can now give them a temporary mag card that could be thrown away," added Ayal Vogel, president of Barantec.

The joint design between the two companies incorporates Barantec's "Everswitch Inside" patented piezo technology. The piezoelectric effect is the property exhibited by certain crystals of generating voltage when subjected to pressure and conversely, undergoing mechanical stress when subjected to an electric field. The sensors embedded below the metal surface of the keys are made of a ceramic alloy that only needs pressure to activate. There are no moving parts to wear out and all numbers are hard anodized for years of use without wear.

"We were able to build readers using Barantec's unique production techniques in small quantities without spending large amounts on tooling," added Foster. "We pioneered the combination of three of the most common reader technologies in our Architectural-Class
TripleTech reader: a piezo keypad for long life, a low or high frequency RFID reader, plus a single or dual head high reliability magnetic stripe reader."

Each of these technologies is available in any combination and interfaces with thee Quintron panel or with any other Weigand or ABA compatible panel using a single 6-wire cable. An optional Weigand to RS232 serial interface is available for direct connection to a PC for enrolling cards into a database. A combination of a selection of colors and finishes in the solid billet aluminum case is available. Keys have raised dots to comply with the American with Disabilities Act standards.

In addition, Tri-Guard is easy to install, vandal proof and impervious to the elements. The unit is able to withstand user abuse, the harshest environments and temperatures ranging from –31 degrees to 150º F. With a standard Wiegand output, Tri-Guard is compatible with almost all access control systems.

As part of the Quintron's Architectural-Class reader family, single or dual technology versions of the readers are available as RFID only, Mag Stripe Only, Keypad only, or in any combination.
